Allegheny Places will establish a vision for the county supported by goals and policies based on factual information and realistic implementation programs. Allegheny County will have a framework for strategic use of public resources to optimize our quality of life. The Plan can become a tool to market our county and our commitment to a bright future.

The Plan will include guidelines and priorities for developing infrastructure, undertaking capital projects, providing grants, and approving tax abatements and TIFs. Policies will be in place to protect and enhance regional natural and man-made systems such as trails, greenways, riverfronts, air quality, and storm water management.

Allegheny Places will benefit local municipalities. State agencies are required by law to consider county comprehensive plans in evaluating grant and permit applications, and to give priority to local municipal projects that are consistent with county plans.

Allegheny Places will include a current and detailed geographic information system (GIS) and database available for use by local municipalities.

The Plan will provide regional context, tools, and models for local municipalities to benchmark, consider multi-municipal issues, and make informed local land-use decisions. It will also help us to market the county nationally and internationally, and attract investors to the region.
